Samuel Glover Long Jr., 24, of Lake Serene died Saturday at Winchester Medical Center.

Mr. Long was born Sept. 29, 1964, in Winchester, the son of Samuel G. and Gail Dean Long Sr. He was a 1983 graduate of John Handley High School and Dowell J. Howard Vocational School. He was a recipient of the Exchange Club Youth of the Year Award. He was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church and was employed at O'Sullivan Corp. as an electrician.

Surviving with his parents of Winchester are a daughter, Courtney Phalen Long of Stephens City; a sister, Sheri Long Woody of Bel Air, Md,; his paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Long of Winchester; and his maternal grandmother, Mary Dean of Winchester.

A funeral will be on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Braddock Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jeff Witt and the Rev. David Goodpasture officiating. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jones Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Courtney Phalen Long Trust, c/o Kuykendall, Wetsel, Kuykendall, P.O. Box 2760, Winchester 22601.
