Samuel Billingsly, Jr.

A kind and gentle heart was stilled as Jesus nestled him in his arms and carried his immortal soul to his heavenly home to be with Him throughout eternity.

Sam was born in a little log cabin. "2 rooms and a dirt floor" he would quote on Valentine's Day 1933, in Hammond, MO. Sam departed us at his home Sunday, April 19, 2015 in Nixa, MO. Sam was proud to be a Quality Control Inspector at Aerojet General, working to supply NASA with parts for the space shuttles. He was extremely proud to do his part for America and the space program. After Aerojet, Sam worked until his retirement with the Bangor Hydro Electric Company in Bangor, Maine. Sam stayed very busy with bowling, blue grass concerts, and family. Sam received many awards from the places he worked, and he will be fondly remembered by his co-workers.

Sam was very proud of his Native American roots. He was proud to be a Cherokee Indian. He supported many non-profit organizations, especially for the Cherokee children.

Sam loved to read, and keep up on politics. Learning was very important to him. He was a story teller and loved by all.

We want to say a special thank you to our neighbor and friend Joan Taylor for being his faithful friend and for keeping an eye on Sam for his loving family.

During the last few months, Sam appreciated the support of the nurses who came to visit him. Sam always tried to smile and tell jokes. His humor will never be forgotten.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Goode; his mother Allie Steverson; his father Samuel Billingsly; six siblings; and two grandsons.

Sam is survived by his daughters; his special lady friend, Evelynn Thomas; two sons; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and so many relatives and friends to list everyone.

Sam's visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday, April 24, 2015, in Adams Funeral Home 109 N. Truman Blvd Nixa, MO 65714. His funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, April 25, 2015, in the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral service.

There will be a celebration of his life after the funeral service at English Village Park club house at 16 English Village Park Nixa, MO 65714.
