Betty Jean Freeman, 93, of Lincoln and formerly of Champaign passed away on Wednesday (Aug. 19, 2015) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Lincoln.

Betty was born Aug. 2, 1922 to Smith G. Hainey and Reatha (Kuykendall) Hainey. She married William Longcor in 1944 and was later divorced. She married Richard L. Freeman on Feb. 28, 1947. He preceded her in death in 2000.

Betty was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Francis Hainey; sisters, Joyce Ritchie and Nancy Corum and sons, Richard Freeman Jr. and David Longcor.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice Sue (Gaylord) Bidwell; two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.

She started her nursing training at Burnham City Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and spent several years as a nurse in various area hospitals until her retirement. The oldest of four children, Betty grew up in the Bement area and helped her dad farm until she entered nursing school. Betty loved her family and was especially fond of her two great-granddaughters. She was a member of First Christian Church of Champaign.
