Obituary

Just at the sunset hour Friday evening, July 8, Richard Tannehill passed from this life to the life beyond. Mr. Tannehill, or "Uncle Dick," as he was familiarly known, and for whom Tannehill post office was named, died at the old homestead where he had lived for more than 20 years, aged 80 years, 3 months and 5 days. He had been living for a time with his son James in Oklahoma. His daughter, Mrs. Julia Hunt had recently brought him back to the old homestead, but he lived only a short time after his arrival.

Uncle Dick was an Indianian by birth, but left that state in the fall of 1877 and came to Cowley county, settling on the quarter section where he died.

The funeral was conducted at the house by Rev. Powell. A daughter and an only sister, from Milan, Sumner county, were present at the funeral.

May we all, like Uncle Dick, live to be old and without an enemy.
