Frankford, MO

I send you enclosed, a copy of resolutions which will explain themselves. I will give you a brief sketch of life of the deceased.
He emigrated to this county at an early day and was well acquainted with early history of this state. He went from this state to calif. With, I think, the first Calif. Emigration where he accumulated considerable wealth. From there he moved to Texas where he remained until the close of the late war. About 5 years ago, he moved back to this place where he has remained up to the time of his death. He was at the time of his death, 74 years old and had lived with his wife, who is still living, 54 years. He was active as a boy up to his last sickness, hearty and stout. If I had been in the insurance business, I would just as soon taken a risk on Uncle jack’s (as he was familiarly called) life as anyone I have known for 10 years.
Fraternally yours,
John J. Steele
