Howard Oliver Breese, 88, of Claysville (Buffalo Township), died Friday, July 7, 2000, in Hillsview Personal Care Home, Claysville.

He was born December 7, 1911, in Washington, a son of William Oliver and Lola Sprowls Breese.

Mr. Breese founded Rolling Hills Chapel, Claysville, where he had served as senior pastor from its inception.

He was a 1929 graduate of Trinity High School and attended Washington and Jefferson College and Christian Missionary Alliance Bible School in Pittsburgh.

A contractor by trade, Mr. Breese worked in the Washington post office during the 1930s and was acting administrator of Hillsview Personal Care Home in Claysville from 1975 to 1986. He enjoyed working with computers and helping at Hillsview Personal Care Home, for which he received EMT certification.

In March 1932, in Washington, he married Alice Mounts, who died October 20, 1966. In January 1968, in Harrisburg, he married Leah Jane Groves, who died in 1983. In October 1985, in Claysville, he married Myrtle Stevens, who died in 1995.

Surviving are two sons, Robert Lee and Homer Duane Breese, both of Canfield, Ohio; six daughters, Esther Thomas and Laura Main, both of Claysville, Estella Martin of Washington, Dorothy Clark of Berlin Center, Ohio, Shirley Lindley of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Patricia Westwood of Tempe, Ariz.; two stepsons, David Warbeck of Washington and David Everly of Atlanta, Ga.; a stepdaughter, Della Zinkler of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a brother, Lloyd Breese of Claysville; two sisters, Ethel Ruschell and Esther Elliott, both of Washington; 32 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased are an infant daughter, Rose Mary Breese; a sister, Estella Hill; two grandsons, Gerald Main Jr. and Johnny Breese; a granddaughter, Daunice Kaye Varner; and a great-grandson.

BREESE '96 Friends of Howard Oliver Breese of Claysville (Buffalo Township), who died Friday, July 7, 2000, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Rolling Hills Chapel, 214 Timberlake Road, Claysville, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 10, with the Rev. Don Tanner and the Rev. David Martin coofficiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Michael H. Heinrich Funeral Home, Claysville, is in charge of arrangements.
