Florence Hitchcock Dies In Randolph

Randolph -- Mrs. Florence S. Hitchcock, 92, of Jamestown Road, Randolph, died Saturday (May 9, 1959) in Byron Convalescent Home.
Mrs. Hitchcock was born in England, March 8, 1867, a daughter of John and Emma Strudley, and came to the United States as a small girl. Her first residence in this country was Detroit, Mich. At one time she served as secretary to U.S. Senator Palmer. While living in Washington D.C., she was married to George Hitchcock of Randolph.
Mr. Hitchcock was a coachman at the White House. Mr. and Mrs. Hitchcock moved to Randolph 62 years ago. The couple farmed in this area until the death of Mr. Hitchcock in October, 1945.
Until 12 years ago when her state of health caused her to curtail many activities, Mrs. Hitchcock had been very active in Red Cross work in the Randolph area.
Her survivors include two grandsons, George Wilcox, Corry, PA, and Willis Wilcox, Randolph; three granddaughters, Mrs Marjorie Swan, Randolph, Mrs. Jean Whitney, Lafayette, Ind., and Mrs Joan Crissey, Jamestown; eight great grandchildren; a sister in California and a brother in Canada.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Tuesday in Hoitink Funeral Home, Randolph. Rev. John L. Petrie, pastor of Randolph Federated Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Randolph Cemetery.
