JAMES MELFORD 'MEL' HARWOOD, 79, of Memphis, died Sunday at Germantown Community Hospital-Methodist East after a short illness. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. Memphis Funeral Home Union Chapel has charge. The husband of Edna Bowling Harwood, he leaves a son, James M. Harwood Jr. of Memphis; three sisters, Mrs. Elisabeth Bost and Mrs. Mildred McDonald, both of Memphis, and Mrs. Tula Crumpton of Greenville, Miss., and a granddaughter.
