Funeral services for James M. Reid, 63, 725 Garfield avenue, president of the Holland-Ferguson Abstract company for the past 25 years. were held at 3 p. m. today at the Burpee-Wood funeral home, 420 N. Main street, with the Rev. William H. Fulton officiating. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
Mr. Reid dropped dead from a heart attack at 4:20 p. m. Satrday as he was completing 18 holes of golf at Rockford Country club. The police ambulance was called, but Mr. Reid was dead before it arrived. He had complained of feeling ill earlier in the week but had spent the early part of Saturday at his office, 111 North Court street.
He went to work for the abstract company 41 years ago after graduating from Rockford high school in 1895 and taking a year's business course. He rose steadily as the firm expanded and for the past 25 years had served as its president.
Mr. Reid was born in Argyle May 28, 1876, and had lived in Rockford since 1892. He was a member of the Rotary club, Elks club, Rockford Country club, and the First Presbyterian church.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Inez Thompson Reid; a son, Attorney James T. Reid; a daughter, Mrs. J. Irvine Emmott; four brothers, the Rev. Frank Reid of Orleans, Neb., Edward Reid of Argyle, Howard Reid of Napa, Cal., and a sister, Mrs. W.W. Hammond of Kenosha, Wi.
