Jerry L. Keener, 77

JULY 3, 1938—AUG. 13, 2015

Jerry L. Keener, 77, of Bloomington, IN, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015. He was born July 3, 1938, in Logansport, IN, the son of the late Thomas and Erma Burk Keener.

Jerry graduated from Logansport High School in 1957. He attended Indiana University and eventually graduated with a Master’s in Education from Indiana State University. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa. In 1963 he married the love of his life, Betty Keener. After graduation he was the principal of Hendricks School in Logansport, IN. Starting in 1966 and for the next 23 years he was the Special Education Director for MCCSC, Spencer-Owen, Eastern Greene, and Brown County Schools. From 1989-1990 he was Interim Superintendent for Monroe County Community School Corporation. He retired from the Monroe County Community School Corporation as a school administrator.

Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, wildlife, golfing, making and flying remote- controlled model airplanes, and he was an avid reader. He also enjoyed travelling; his favorite trips were to Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Betty Keener; his two sisters, Carol (Phil) Waechter and Jane Schneider; sister-in-law, Sandy (John) Zellers; beloved nieces and nephews, Mike, Amy, Tania, Jeff, Brad, Dianna, Bill, Merra, Kristy; and many other beloved family members.

Funeral services to celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, August 17, 2015, at Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home, 4150 E. Third Street, officiated by Pastor David Wigington. Entombment will follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Private for the family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 2655 S. Adams Street, Bloomington, IN 47403 or to The American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
