Charles Lafayette Lucas was born December 14, 1930, in Waycross, GA, and passed away July 26, 2015 in Richland, WA. He was the older of two children born to William F. and Alma Lucas. While still a child, his parents moved to Port Authur, Texas, where Charles was raised. He active in sports, drama and student government and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. He then attended Texas A&M as a ROTC student and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. He was a lifelong Aggie.
After College, Charles joined the U.S Army and served four years in overseas duty assignments with occupation forces in Mannheim, Germany and Orleans, France. After military service, Charles began his career as a computer programmer while the IT industry was very young. For the next forty years he was recognized as a leader in his field, first at DuPont and later at Electronic Data System (EDS). After retirement, Charles began a second successful career in real estate. He continued in that profession until health issues forced him to retire.
Charles was known for his energy and was often compared to the “Energizer Bunny”. He was an encourager and his smile was contagious. He was proud of his children and his long marriage to Mary.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Nancy Lucas Treadway and grandson Justin Treadway. He is survived by his wife, Mary of Kennewick, WA; son: Tim (Carolyn) Lucas of Nederland, TX; daughter: Cathy Lucas of Melbourne, Australia; stepsons: Roy (Barbara) Cole of Kennewick, WA, David (Mary) Cole of West Richland, WA and Stuart Cole of Kennewick, WA; brother: Dr. Fred (Margaret) Lucas of Austin, TX and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His final resting place will be in Aggie Field of Honors at the Memorial Cemetery of College Station, Texas.
