The Gadsden Times, Monday, January 6, 1975, page 6: Mrs. Venice Thornton Smith, 83, North 7th Street, East Gadsden, died yesterday at 1:20 a.m. at a local hospital after a short illness. Survivors include, son, T.Y. Smith, Gadsden; daughter, Mrs. Ruth Bridges, Gadsden; Mrs. Frances Armstrong, Glencoe; Mrs. Grace Temple, Decatur; sisters, Mrs. Clyde Moon, Centre; Mrs. Sam Berry, Sr., Birmingham; 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Services today at 2:30 p.m. at Collier-Butler Chapel and burial in Crestwood Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was a native of Cherokee County and a resident of Etowah County most of her life. She was a member of East Gadsden Baptist Church. Collier-Butler Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
