He was born Oct. 16, 1947, in Meadville, a son of Donald Edward and Alma Katherine Gess Clancy. He married Sandra (Sandy) Lee Aylsworth on Aug. 16, 1969.
He attended St. Brigid grade school, St. Agatha High School and John Carroll University. Joe was a member of the National Guard, attended Officers Training School and was appointed commanding officer of Franklin National Guard. He was employed with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad as a fireman and then went on to work for Hughson Chemical in Saegertown, which later became known as LORD Corp. He started out in production, was promoted to traffic manager and then moved to the Erie Corporate offices as logistics manager for all of LORD Corp. He retired in June of 2014.
Joe was a life-time member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 219, Meadville; member of Saegertown American Legion Post 205, Erie Traffic Club and Conneaut Lake Volunteer Fire Department Station 3.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Parish, where he served as a lector and catechist of religious education.
In Joe's free time, he enjoyed vacationing with family, golfing, but most of all spending time with his two grandsons, Ryan and Jordan. He even went into business with Ryan this year.
Survivors, in addition to his loving wife, Sandy, of 46 years, include a daughter, Heather and her husband, Donald Young, of Meadville; two grandchildren, Ryan and Jordan Young, both of Meadville; a brother, Timothy Clancy and wife, Kathie, of New Rochelle, N.Y.; two sisters, Mary Louise Shipper and her husband, Dr. David M. Shipper, of New York, N.Y., and Patricia Stowens of Renton, Wash.; three brothers-in-law, William Aylsworth and his wife, Lynn, of Meadville, Warren Aylsworth and his wife, Chris, of Meadville and James Aylsworth and his wife, Twila, of Geneva; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alma (Gess) and Donald Clancy of Meadville; and in-laws, Barbara (Marhoefer) and Roland Aylsworth.
