Mary Katherine "Mary Kay" (Dowell) Hixson, the daughter of Walter Lewis and Gladys Adell (Bartram) Dowell was born March 30, 1939 in St. Joseph, Missouri. She attended Shawnee Mission North High School in Kansas City, Missouri and Webster Groves High School in Webster Groves, Missouri graduating in 1957. Mary Kay attended William Woods College in Fulton, Missouri for one year. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. Mary Kay then attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Missouri earning a Master's degree in Special Education.

In 1958, Mary Kay was united in marriage to Gary Stumph. To this union, Cherie, Greg, and Todd were born. They later divorced. In April, 1970 Mary Kay was united in marriage to Jack Campbell and they became the parents of Jackie. Jack passed away on December 22, 1971. On July 21, 1972, Mary Kay was united in marriage to Jack Hixson and they became the parents of Elaine. Jack passed away on December 8, 2002.

Mary Kay was employed as a Special Education teacher for 30 years at Tarkio High School. She had also taught for half a year in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi, Chi Omega Chapter in Tarkio, United Methodist Church in Tarkio, Weekly Luncheon Club and the Garden Club. Mary Kay was also a member of the Community Hospital-Fairfax Auxiliary in Fairfax, Missouri,the Missouri State Teacher's Association and Tarkio Community Teacher's Association. Mary Kay loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards with her Poker Club, traveling, gardening, cooking, crafts and loving on her dog, Gobi. Mary Kay faced many losses during her life, but was always full of joy and happiness and lived her life to the fullest. Mary Kay passed away, surrounded by her family, Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Tarkio Rehabilitation and Health Care at the age of 76.

Besides her parents and husbands, Mary Kay was preceded in death by son, Greg Hixson. Survivors include children Cherie Lynn Heits and husband, Mike of Fairfax, Missouri; Todd Allen Hixson and wife, Debbie of Fenton, Missouri; Jacqueline Elizabeth Adell Martin and husband, Casey of Tarkio, Missouri; and Katherine Elaine Tyner and husband, Dave of Kearney, Missouri. Grandchildren Brian Heits and wife, Blythe, Brad Heits and Mallory Heits; Alec Hixson, Crystal Priscu and husband, Sam; Grace, Sophia, and Claire Martin; Dru Peregrine, Maya and Aiden Tyner; and six great-grandchildren, Madelynn, Ivie and Bryce Heits, Maddox Heits, Kaylee and Sam Priscu.


Funeral Services: 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 17, 2015, United Methodist Church, Tarkio.
