Chauncey R. Hatch, age 83, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005 at the RTA Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Lakeside.

He was born in Taylor the third of eleven children of Willard Rudger and Gertrude May Colbath Hatch. He attended Taylor Elementary School and Snowflake Union High School through the 11th grade. On Sept. 13, 1941 he married Fenla Rogers and they remained best friends and business partners for 63 years. While in High School Chauncey began driving truck for his father in highway construction. He later went into the dairy business with his dad and brothers. They operated Sunrise Dairy in Taylor and it is the only full process independent dairy in the state of Arizona and it is still family owned and operated. Chauncey later went into the logging business for several years. In 1957 he opened a Homelite Chain Saw business in Show Low.
In 1960 he moved the business to Snowflake and also opened Enco Service Stations in Snowflake and Heber. He became a distributor for Pioneer Chainsaws and had 1200 plus Chainsaw related accounts throughout Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. He later added Honda Motorcycles to the business and called it Hatch's Saw and Cycle. In 1978 he went into the automobile business and was partners with his sons Gerald and Roger. He was also in business with his sons Rick and Charlie for several years in Safford. He retired in 1985.
Chauncey also was civic minded and served on the Snowflake Town Council for a time. He was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had served in numerous capacities. Chauncey was known as a Charitable Man with a tender heart. He supported many young men on their missions.
In his later years he started a hobby of tying quilts with his wife Fenla, after she passed away in January 2003 he continued this hobby and completed over 300 quilts which he gave away as they were completed. Through out his life, Chauncey loved the outdoors and especially loved being with his family.
Chauncey is survived by his sons, Gerald (Ruth) Hatch of Snowflake, Rick Hatch of Scottsdale, Charlie (Kathi) Hatch of Safford, Roger (Andrea) Hatch of Show Low; daughters, Florene (Bob) Terror, Melanie (Larry) Williams both of Snowflake; sisters, Jewell Rogers of Taylor, Opal Cuave of Snowflake and Sheilia (Roy) Hall of Taylor; 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Grave side services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at the R.V. "Mike" Ramsay Memorial Cemetery in Snowflake. A viewing will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday evening at Owens Mortuary in Snowflake.
