Janet E. Barnes, a highly regarded teacher for 25 years in the Apple Valley Unified School District, died at her home in Apple Valley on May 28, 2006, after a 16-year battle with breast cancer. Janet had resided in Apple Valley since 1979 and quietly passed away with her loving family at her bedside. Born in Santa Rosa on Feb. 17, 1946, Janet was one of seven children. She attended Urusline High School and graduated from California State University, San Bernardino. Janet was a well- known figure on the campus at Apple Valley Middle School, where she taught math for most of her teaching career. She was a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the California Math Council. Janet was the beloved mother of Scott Barnes of Apple Valley and Dawn Barnes-Miyagishima of Long Beach and the beloved grandmother of Hannah, Joseph and Jessica. She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Virgil. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Victor Valley Mortuary, 15609 11th St. in Victorville. Sunset Hills Mortuary is handling arrangements.
