Jack "Wop" Barsanti died peacefully Thursday, July 27, 2006, at his home in Butte. Jack was born on Aug. 22, 1930, to Florindo and Armanda Barsanti and grew up in the McQueen Addition.

He attended Holy Savior Grade School, and Boys Central High School. He met and married Marie Kolger in 1964, and their son Gino was born in 1966.

In his early years, Jack worked for the Anaconda Co. in several of the Butte mines. He then served in the Army and is a Korean War veteran, honorably discharged in 1956.

When he returned to Butte, Jack worked for Jolly Construction, Stodden Contractors, the Anaconda Co. Concentrator and Cunningham-Evans Tire Shop. He was a great cement finisher, always "pouring a slab" for family and friends, and took much pride in his work. He never turned down anyone who needed help. He contributed his talents in many ways including pouring Our Lady of the Rockies base foundation, Montana Tech, and West Junior High (now West Elementary).

Jack worked very hard and was very dedicated and loyal in his jobs. He retired in 1990 as road foreman for Butte-Silver Bow government, after 17 years of supervising many sidewalk and road crews. In the years following his retirement, he stilled cruised the streets of the city just to make sure they were being maintained to his liking. Georgetown Lake was also like a second home where Jack, Marie and all the kids and grandkids went to enjoy their time at the cabin.

Jack loved all sports, baseball being one of his favorites. He played in the Copper League as a young man, and always attended local baseball, football and basketball games, encouraging and supporting his grandkids as they hit the field or the court. He treasured the Friday night football games and the sunny afternoons on the Montana Tech or Griz fields. Above all else, Jack was a diehard, loyal Cleveland Indians fan and loved to harass when Cleveland beat the "other" team.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Agnes Bugni and Marian Michelotti, and his son, Tom Henderson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marie; sons, Bill (Judy) Henderson, Dennis (Diane) Henderson, and Gino John Barsanti; daughters, Darlene (Mike) O'Rourke, Vicki (George) Paul; brother, Ralph (Ardis) Barsanti; sister, Florence (Lawrence) Giovanini; grandchildren, Traci (Rob) Merzlak, Teri (Art) Lazo, Bill (Lynette) Henderson, Scott (Michelle) Henderson, Marty (Kathy) Henderson, Dana Henderson, Mandi (Kevin) Maloughney, Molli (Brian) Wall, Michael (Yoko) O'Rourke, and Megan, Krista and Matt Paul; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by his family and his many, many friends. Jack loved being a McQueen and Butte native and was very proud of his heritage. We all love him, and will treasure our memories with him forever.

Friends are asked to join the family on Sunday after 5 p.m. in the Duggan Dolan Mortuary Chapel. Parish Vigil will be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Mortuary Chapel on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials: Our Lady of the Rockies, 434 N. Main St., Butte, or the Shriners Children's Hospital.
