James Shannon taken by death

One of Aliquippa's oldest residents died Saturday following an extended illness. James Shannon Jr., 97, of Wade Street, had resided in Aliquippa for 65 years. He worked in the pipe shop at the Aliquippa Works of Jones & Laughlin Steel Corp., retiring in 1958. He was a member of the J&L Veteran's Association and Local 1211 of the United Steelworkers of America. Survivors include three sons, John, Homer and Norman, all of Aliquippa; two daughters, Louise Shannon of Aliquippa and Mrs. Howard (Ada Mae) Cashdollar, Rochester; plus 37 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Shannon, in 1956, and by three sons, Fred, Leroy and Stuart, and by a daughter, Mrs. Florence Barton. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Frank A. Hornstein Funeral Home, Sheffield Avenue, Aliquippa.
