OTTUMWA — Rhonda Kay Denato, 49, of 524 Bryan Road, died August 2, 2015, at Philip Hospital in Philip, South Dakota, as a result of a motorcycle accident on her way to Sturgis, South Dakota.
She was born May 17, 1966, in Trenton, Missouri, to Ronald Dean and Carolyn Kay Bucy Hammack. She married Rick Bennett, and they later divorced. She married Craig Denato on July 1, 2004.
A 1984 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Rhonda earned an Associate Degree from Indian Hill Community College. She worked at her family’s business at Baskin Robbins and then worked for Cargill Meat Solutions for 15 years as a chemist in the lab.
Rhonda loved to ride her motorcycle and traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada. She enjoyed baking, crafts, golfing, her dogs and especially spending time with her family.
Surviving are her husband, Craig; daughters, Ashley (Blake) Engelson and Kristi Jo (Tyler) McDonough, both of Ottumwa; son, Ryan Bennett of Ottumwa; two grandchildren, Halayna and Alyssa; two brothers, Brian (Cassie) Hammack and Brad (Amy) Hammack, both of Ottumwa; a sister, Kim (Jamie) Lemonds of Ottumwa; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Hammack; and a sister-in-law, Cathy Denato-Sipes.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Hornback officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be designated at a later date or to the National Children’s Cancer Society.
