OTTUMWA — Royland I. Bell, 67, of 312 S. Moore, died at 3:09 p.m. August 10, 2015, at Ridgewood Nursing & Rehab Center.
He was born February 21, 1948, in Richmond, Virginia, to Frank and Dorothy Williams Bell Sr.
A graduate of Ottumwa High School, Roy served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam Conflict, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He worked for 32 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 2001.
Roy enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing shuffleboard and participating in a pool league.
Surviving are his children, R.J. Bell and Marcus Bell, both of Ottumwa, Shamica (Brandon) Hasley of Livermore, California; stepchildren, Lornique Rader of Ottumwa, Lornette Schmitz of Minnesota and Stacey Martin of Columbia, South Carolina; eight grandchildren; and a brother, Rev. Frank (Clem) Bell of Omaha, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dwight Bell; and an aunt, Neola Williams.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2015, at Reece Funeral Home with his brother, Rev. Frank Bell and Rev. Shane Frazier officiating.
Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
Visitation begins at 11 a.m. Monday with the family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
