Dale was a softball and baseball enthusiast and coached several adult and young boys teams. He began his railroad career in late 1951 with Atlantic Coastline RR and spent thirty five years as switchman, conductor, yardmaster and assistant trainmaster. He retired in 1986 from CSX RR and was active in several railroad retired groups. He was a member of JSO Shadco, sector J for fifteen years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Fewox Turknett, a daughter, Valerie (Jackson) Herrington, a son, Curtis Dale (LaWayne) Turknett of Melrose, Fl, two grandsons, Jackson Jr. and Jason Herrington; a sister, Sara T Harris (the late John E Harris) of Winter Garden, Fl., many nieces and nephews and step-grandchildren.
A celebration of Dale's life will be Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 11:00 am at Mandarin United Methodist Church, 11270 San Jose Blvd., Jax, Fl. with Pastor Debbie McLeod officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Northeast Florida Community Hospice or Mandarin United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the fellowship hall. Arrangements by The Edgewood Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home 729 S.
