Jim graduated from the University of Alabama, was the captain of the 1956 Crimson Tide Football Team and was the recipient of the Frank Thomas Award. After college he continued his love for football by coaching at Tate High School in Pensacola, Florida; Carbon Hill High School in Carbon Hill, Alabama; and B.B. Comer High School in Sylacauga, Alabama.
Jim left coaching and went to work for State Farm Insurance where he served more than thirty years before retiring.
