Jacob Van Zyl Died Suddenly in City - Paralysis Fatal to Wellknown Resident of Town - Had Been Ill of the Past Eight Months, but Death Was Unexpected – Born in Holland.

After an illness extending over eight months, Jacob Van Zyl passed away suddenly this morning at the home of his son, John Van Zyl, on Newell avenue. His death was caused by progressive muscular paralysis. While he had been in an almost helpless condition for some time, he did not appear to be any weaker this morning than usual, and at the time of his death there was no one in the room besides his wife, although other members of the family were near. The end came peacefully and without a previous warning. The announcement of his demise was sorrowfully and unexpectedly received by his many friends in this city, where he was very well known.

He was sixty-seven years of age and was born in Holland. Twenty-one years ago he came to America, coming direct to Muscatine, where he had lived continuously with the exception of two years when he resided at Grand Rapids. For many years he was employed at the Roach & Musser factory, but of late years has been retired.

Aside from his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters. They are: John and William, of this city, and Mrs. John Bekenhorst, of Cawker City, Kan., and Mrs. Garrett Kobes, of Grand Rapids, Mich. He was a member of the Reformed church.

The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the residence of Jan Van Zyl, and Rev. S.J. Menning will conduct the service.
