My special thanks to Cliff for the transfer of this memorial.

Humphrey Peake is listed as a Patriot of the American Revolution for rending material aid to the cause.

  • SAR Patriot P-327879
  • DAR Ancestor # A086893

Humphrey & Mary also had children William and Elizabeth, both died before their father, according to his will. Their plantation was on the Gum Springs area where the Peake Family Cemetery the Gum Springs School is located. I have a map drawn by Geo. Washington on which he located and wrote the Peake place on Little Hunting Creek . Gen. Washington would visit ("rid out to see") Humphrey often, and mentions Humphrey and the Peake family in his Diaries. He mentions "rid out to see Mr Peake" who was ill. Mt Vernon and the Peake plantation was only about 2 or 3 miles apart. Humphrey supplied supplies/goods for the Revolutionary cause, therefore he was a Patriot as indicated by the plaque place by his headstone.
