Livestock Merchant, Brother-In-Law to Vice President Curtis
An attack of acute indigestion was fatal to Jerome (Rome) Colvin, 69. Topeka livestock merchant and brother-in-law of Vice-President Charles Curtis, at his office at 114 West Curtis street. Friends in the office said Mr. Colvin had complained of his ailment during the day. Death occurred at 4:40 o'clock in the afternoon.
Tho Mr. Colvin had been in ill health for some time, he continued his business activities daily.
Mr. Colvin was born in Allen county, Ohio; and had been in the livestock business in Topeka almost continually since he settles here 50 years ago. He was married to Curtis' sister in 1892. In Topeka Mr. Colvin was known by his friends as a most agreeable companion. Vice President Curtis and Mrs. Dolly Gann have planned to come to Topeka for funeral services.
Funeral Services Tuesday
Besides his widow, Mr. Colvin is survived by a son, William Colvin, Kansas City; and a step-son, Oran Layton, Wichita, and a sister, Mrs John Maynard, Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the home, 1101 Topeka Boulevard, with Dean John Warren Day, of Grace Cathedral. The body will lie in state at the home until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers have been chosen from among Mr. Colvin's friends and business associates. Active pallbearers will be George Pardee, Joe Hows, Sam Martin, Hugh McFarland, Jay Close, George Knauer, Robert L. Miller and Charles D. Smith. The honorary pallbearers are to be E.R. Hayes, Walter Chaney, M.A. Hutchinson, S.J. Hodgins and T.P. Oliver.
