Bobbie Joe Lancaster, 84, was born February 25, 1931 to Ben and Estalee (Holiman) Lancaster. On July 6, 1950, Bob married the love of his life, Marie Hill. They were married for 65 years. Bob went to be with his heavenly father Friday, August 7, 2015.
Bob Lancaster’s many skills/jobs could not be summed up in a few short words. You could call him a “jack of all trades.” His first job was with Tilman Reed Service Station where he worked as a backhoe operator among many other duties for 30 years. After working for Tilman Reed he went to work at Navarro College as a maintenance foreman. His biggest accomplishment there was building Navarro’s first baseball complex. He then went on to build numerous baseball/softball fields in Wortham, Mildred and Kerens in his spare time. He retired from Navarro College at the age of 65. The retired life was not an option for this hard working man, he continued to do many part time jobs up until the age of 80.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents Ben and Estalee Lancaster; brother, Denver Lancaster; sisters, Aileen Robertson, Geraldine McGlaun, and Faye Abbie.
He is survived by his wife, Marie Lancaster; sisters, Bennie Boone and Nell Lancaster; brother, Dan Lancaster; sisters-in-law, Marvene Lancaster and Lelia Schlimmer; daughter, Janet Palmer and friend, Sam Phelps; son, Ricky and wife Vi Lancaster; grandchildren, Caleb and wife Danielle Palmer; Joshua Palmer; Aaron and wife Alison Palmer; Kristen and husband Matt Lynch; Chad and wife Brittany Lancaster; Coy and wife Shelby Lancaster; and Cole Lancaster; 11 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the services include his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Lary Reed, Homer Gene Wasson, Billy H. Upchurch, Dolwin Smallwood, Billy Ray Brown, John Holloway, and Otis Ray Spurlock.
Visitation service will be 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Paschal Funeral Home in Kerens.
Funeral Services are 10 a.m. Monday, August 10, 2015 at First Baptist Church of Kerens with the Rev. Frank Upchurch and Bobby Bain officiating. Interment will follow at Prairie Point Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers at www.alz.org>in_my_community_donate.
