Andrew was a tailor, in business for 40 years. His shop was located in the Franklin House which is now the site of the Central Presbyterian Church on the square in Chambersburg. He lost heavily when the Confederate soldiers burned Chambersburg in 1864.

Andrew married twice. His first wife was Sarah Jane Grove, with whom he had 14 children. Ten survived. His 2nd marriage was to Emma K Harn. They had 2 children
