Homer lived and worked in his early years in California and married the love his life, Shirley Merline Settlemire in 1967 in Carson City, Nevada. They returned to Oklahoma in 1973 and he continued to work in the construction business until his retirement. He enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, riding his tractor, hunting, and he loved to be outdoors. He was a loving husband and father who dearly loved his family and friends.
Homer is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley Blankinship of the home; children, Travis Blankinship of Durant, OK, Larry Blankinship of Sacramento, CA, Kathy Blankinship of Durant, OK, Denise Cheatham of Turlock, CA, Shirley Ann Blankenship of Mustang, OK, Anita Smith and husband Danny of Durant, OK and Janice Stanley and husband Tom of Mustang, OK; brother, Zane Blankinship of Madera, CA; sisters, Maxine Simpson and husband Frank of Madera, CA and Irene Helm of Madera, CA; nephew, Edward Gordon of Madera, CA and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Homer was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Blankinship, JD Ward and Bud Blankinship; sisters, Mattie Croun, Sally Scott, Elizabeth Ward and Ruby Miller and granddaughter, Spring Stephens.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Brown's Funeral Service Chapel in Atoka, OK. Interment will follow in Bentley Cemetery with Anthony Stephens, Tony Stephens, Paul DeVault, Jerry Miller, Howard Larkins and Rick Jennings serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Crites, Wayne Mayo, Tom Stanley, Phillip Bowers, Danny Smith and Keoki Puana. The family will receive friends at Brown's Funeral Service in Durant, OK on Sunday afternoon from 3-5 a.m.. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.brownsfuneralservice.com.
