David Leonard Stevens, age 82, of Bumpass, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015, at The Laurels of Charlottesville. Born in Nelson County, on October 24, 1932, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary Tate Stevens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annette L. Stevens in 2001.

Mr. Stevens was a member of Elk Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Dominion Resources formally Virginia Electric & Power Co. David was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy after 8 years of active service on the 9th of October 1959. David was a graduate of the Jefferson School of Commerce.

He is survived by his son, Gregory L. Stevens and his wife, Brenda of Charlottesville; one brother, James Stevens and his wife, Joanne of Charlottesville; a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins; a step granddaughter, Stephanie L. Ward and her husband, Todd; two step great grandchildren, Nicholas Ward and his wife, Rachel, and Tyler Ward. He is also survived by his devoted and compassionate friend, Lorene Smith of Mineral, whom he shared his life with for 13 years.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2015, at Elk Creek Baptist Church, 5916 Kentucky Springs Road, Mineral, VA 23117, with the Reverend Dr. Woody Jenkins officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the churchyard.The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.The family suggests that those wishing to make a memorial contribution, do so in David's memory to the Lake Anna Rescue Squad, P.O.
