Vinette Alderson, 82, well-known resident of LeRaysville RR 1, passed away Saturday morning, July 12, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Towanda.
Born Aug. 11, 1920, in LeRaysville, he was a son of the late J. Howard and Mabel Morgan Alderson.
Vinette attended the Shadduck School in the Middletown area and later attended the LeRaysville High School, where he graduated in 1938.
On Oct. 5, 1946, he married the former Venita Haire in Rome. Vinette worked on the family farm in LeRaysville for a few years and later became associated with his father in the Alderson Family Sawmill, assuming ownership from his father in later years. Vinette was well-known and very active in the lumber business for many years, until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of the LeRay Lodge No. 471 F&AM and South Mountain Hunting Club, and he served as a member of the Board of Directors of People's State Bank in Wyalusing for 23 years. Vinette was also active in real estate transactions in the area for many years. He loved the outdoors, hunting, trapping and fishing. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Venita Alderson, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Carl Russell of LeRaysville; a son and daughter-in-law, Verne and Maxine Alderson of LeRaysville; eight grandchildren, Kyle Russell and his wife, Aundi Russell, of Seattle, Wash., John Alderson and his wife, Nancy Alderson, of LeRaysville, Amy Bennett and her husband, Brett Bennett, of Laceyville, Alicia Hutchinson and her husband, Chris Hutchinson, of Cadis, Lanny Russell and his fiancée, April Repsher, of LeRaysville, Jim Alderson and his wife, Melinda Alderson, of LeRaysville, Elting Russell, who is serving in the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Idaho, and Angela Brown and her husband, Shawn Brown, of Windham; 12 great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Larry Alderson, and his wife, Beth Alderson, of LeRaysville. Vinette was preceded in death by his father, J. Howard Alderson, in 1970; his mother, Mabel Morgan Alderson, in 1998; a brother, Lewis D. Alderson, in 1993; and two sisters-in-law, Merle Alderson, in 1959; and Lois Alderson, in 1996. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. George Jatko, pastor of the Neath Welsh Congregational Church, officiating and the Rev. Bernard Graham co-officiating. Interment will be in the Rushville Cemetery, Rush Township. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the H.O.P.S. Ambulance Association, in care of James W. Seipler, RR 1, Box 280, Rome, Pa. 18837, in Vinette Alderson's memory.
