Edward (Ed) Lane, Jr., 76, a resident of 1603 Oak Street in Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at his home.The son of Edwin and Zoa (Marshall) Lane, Ed was born October 8, 1925 in Atlantic where he grew up and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1943. Ed served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Vivian Patricia Petersen on May 2, 1947 at the Kimballton Immanuel Lutheran Church. Following marriage, he was employed as a mechanical foreman by Camblin Plumbing and Heating in Atlantic, where he worked for fifty-five years and never officially retired. Ed was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, a lifetime member of the Elks and he was a member of the Nishna Hills Golf Club.Ed is survived by his wife, Vivian Patricia Lane, of Atlantic; one son, Curt Lane and wife, Carol, of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters, Karen Bagshaw and husband, John, of Massena, and Christy Brix and husband, Jerry, of Atlantic; six grandchildren, Mike Bagshaw and wife, Kim, of Cumberland, Missy Jamison and husband, Mark, of Lewis, Sarah Bitting and husband, Brent, of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Matt Brix and wife, Kim, of Ankeny, Emily Brix of Atlantic, and Amy Bagshaw of Des Moines; six great-grandchildren, Zach Bagshaw, Meghan Brix, Hunter Bagshaw, Amber and Alek Jameson and Dannon Bitting; two brothers, Bernard Lane and wife, Lois, and Frank Lane and friend, Anna Most, all of Des Moines; and numerous friendly and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Edwin Lane, Sr., Donald Lane, Alice Hetrick, Dorothy Waage, and Pauline Young.Funeral InformationServices for Ed will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2002, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, Iowa at 10:00 A.M. with Pastor Stephen Gronseth officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
