She was born on October 14, 1949 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Marvin and Alta Armstrong Cox.
She graduated from ACCHS class of 1967, she later attended cosmetology school in Topeka. In 1996 she opened her own hair salon “Silver Shears” in Horton, she retired in August 2012 and sold her business. She was a member of the Muscotah United Church.
On May 9, 1975 she married Dennis Hammersmith in Topeka Kansas, to this union was born one son. They made their home in Horton Kansas.
Ev was preceded in death by her parents and brother Gary Armstrong.
She is survived by her husband Dennis of the home, sons Matt (Staci) Hammersmith, Shawn Mercer both of Horton, daughter Michelle (Jeff) Parker of Topeka. Also two sons Edward (Marian) Hammersmith of Overland Park Kansas, John (Teresa) Hammersmith, Branson Missouri, and one daughter Paula (Brad) Nelson of Kimberling City Missouri, one brother Michael Cox of Topeka; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. Burial will be at the St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery.
