Joseph M. Palenik Sr., 78, Bremen, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday at the Plaza Jewelry Store of Bremen of which he was a part owner as a result of a sudden illness. A retired jeweler, he was born November 14, 1904 at Pueblo, Colorado to Karol and J. Johanna Dedinsky Palenik.

Mr. Palenik was married August 27, 1929 at Whiting to Helen Zajac, who preceded him in death March 17, 1932. He had lived in Bremen since 1969, going there from Whiting. He was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church of Bremen and The Catholic Order of Foresters.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Whiting with Reverend Edward Homco officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hammond.
