Mr. Ivy is a 1964 graduate of Oak Ridge High School. He was united in holy matrimony to Cherry A. Bohanon on July 9, 1966.
Mr. Ivy was a former employee of Reel and Slusher and retired in 2012 from Lockheed Martin, having worked at K-25 as a barrier operator and Y-12 as a chemical operator.
He enjoyed photography, gardening, and fishing. He was known throughout East Tennessee for his special grilling expertise and often participated in the festival held in Jackson Square.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Charles (Bam); two brothers, Robert and Larry; and one sister, Ruby Lee Capers.
He leaves to cherish his memories, devoted wife, Cherry; devoted daughter, Ramona and her husband, Booker Leslie; son, Rayshawn Freeman; sisters, Wanda Sue Jones and Marie (Poolie) Ivy; brother, Douglas Ivy; grandchildren, Chaz, Chalmers, Jaquori, Javon, Charles, Tyrece, and Brookelyn; great-granddaughter, Lariah; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Cordell Bohanon, Warren K. Bohanon, William (Moto) Bohanon, Jimmie (John) Thomas, Gwen Bohanon, Saundra Bohanon, and Marie Ivy; aunts, Sara Jane Young, Willie Mae Young, Mae Lee Harrel, Augusta Barnett, Parlee Mitchell and Nola Ivy; special family friend, Louise Warmley, and special friends, Erskine Woods, Doug Hendrickson, Tony Scales, Robert Redmond and the Towns family, and a host of family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29, from 11 a.m. to noon at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 125 Wilberforce Ave., Oak Ridge. Funeral to begin at noon, with Elder T.L. Mims officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park and will conclude with a dove release ceremony. Flowers may be delivered to the church Wednesday morning.
