Robert K. Jones, 70, Kokomo, a quiet and gentle soul, died at 8:54 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2015, at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital. He was born on February 8, 1945, in Knifley, KY, the son of Loren & Inez (Knifley) Jones. On February 10, 1973, he married Carolyn Sue Phillips, and she survives.

Robert was a 1963 graduate of Kokomo High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1965~1969 with the Air Division. He attained a liberal arts degree from IU Kokomo in 1982. Robert retired from Chrysler Corporation in 2001 after 31 years of service. He loved history, taking special pride in knowing the dates of many historical happenings. He was an avid reader who enjoyed books about Abraham Lincoln. Robert had traveled to many countries while serving in the Navy. With his daughter, Sara, he enjoyed several dad and daughter trips, which Sara will always cherish. He was an avid fan of IU Basketball for over 30 years.

Robert was a member of South Side Christian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon, and Historical Chairman. For the last several years, he and Carolyn had been attending the West Street Christian Church in Tipton.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Carolyn Sue Jones, is daughter Sara Elizabeth (Vince) Girvin, of Kokomo; brother-in-law, Col. Glenn Harrold Sr, United States Army Retired, San Antonio, TX.; nephew, Glenn Harrold Jr., San Antonio, TX.; He is also survived by many special cousins in Kentucky, along with good friends of over 50 years, Dale and Sue Pullen of Cutler, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jill Ann Harrold.


Funeral August 7, 2015, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Chris Duncan officiating. Burial Albright Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo VFW Military Rites Team. Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
