Adelia Theresa Roehrig died peacefully on August 11, 2011 at Michealsen Health Center in Batavia, IL. She was born on July 31, 1913 to Carl and Marie (Platter) Sierke in Aurora, IL. Della married Albert Roehrig on September 18, 1935, and they led an active life, camping, fishing, traveling, and square dancing together. Never one to sit still, she also kept busy gardening, sewing, quilting, playing cards and games, and volunteering for various good causes. She made cancer pads, sewed baby quilts for needy mothers, and rang bells for the Salvation Army Christmas kettles. In her leisure time, Della enjoyed spending time with friends in her Lucky Thirteen Group and the Hiking Club. Della was an active member of St. John’s church, participating in several capacities, and belonged to the Daughters of Ruth. Family was very important to her, and we fondly remember the many gatherings that she hosted at her home. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Joy Roehrig; her granddaughters Robin (Al) Foster and Cindy (Steve) Metzger; her great-grandchildren Melissa, Robert, Amanda, and Thomas; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sisters Irma Roehrig, Frieda White, Marie Skow, and Anna Rheinwald. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 A.M. Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 South Batavia Avenue in Batavia, where a service will follow at 10:30 A.M. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Montgomery, IL.In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be directed to St. John United Church of Christ, 309 Fifth Street, Aurora, IL 60505 or to Vitas Hospice at 580 Water’s Edge Suite 100, Lombard, IL 60148.
