Ruth was born in Brauslau, Germany (all of this information is according to formal German and U.S. Military documents found in her belongings) the daughter of Herbert Gartner and Hedwig (or Luzie or Lutzi) (Staneck) Gartner both of Germany. Ruth said their family was Catholic but were labeled as "Jews" in Germany during WWII, and suffered greatly as a result. Ruth stated she resided in an orphanage where she had to stay until she turned 21 or if she was given permission by the orphanage to marry. Ruth spoke of all of her family being deceased before she married her dear Howard and moved to the United States. She met Howard in Germany and I believe they were married in Germany. Howard was in the military when he met Ruth.

I didn't find memorials for Ruth's parents in findagrave.com,

She listed her siblings as:

Werner Gartner
Horst Gartner
Harry Gartner
Eveliene Gartner

I found some of these names in findagrave, but wouldn't know how to identify them as the right people.

March 18, 1952 in a Statement under Oath "My father is still missing and my mother died in Schweinfurt in July 1947." My parents and I had to fee from Breslau on 23 January 1945 on account of the advance of Russian troops. During our escape I lost my certificate of birth and other personal papers."

Ruth lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for the last 22 years of her life. She loved Las Vegas and introduced many friends to Las Vegas over the years.

Ruth did not seem to like her middle name since on many documents she listed NMI (meaning no middle name). In Ruth's legal documents sometimes her maiden name was spelled Gaertner. She signed her name as Gartner on her marriage application. On a Report from Penal Register of Foreigners Gartner had two "dots" over the a.
