Dorothy F. (Vaughan) Walters, 88, of Otterbein died at 3:50 pm, Friday, July 31, 2015 at St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette.
She was born December 9, 1926 in Wolcott to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Wayne) Vaughan. She graduated from Chalmers High School in 1944. She then worked at Bryan's Manufacturing in Monticello until she married Deloss Walters on April 3, 1948 in Monticello. On April 3, 1974 she lost her beloved husband and mother in a tornado that destroyed the family farm. Dorothy was severely injured but healed to then start a new life raising her son and working as a head cook at Otterbein Elementary.
She was a member of Elmwood Church of Christ. She was strong in her faith and a very caring person who was always there to help her family and friends. She enjoyed puzzles, playing games and Purdue basketball.
She is survived by her 3 children, Cathy (Skip) Dieter of Lafayette, Connie (James) Barker of Mansfield, TX, and Kevin (Marilyn) Walters of Lafayette; 9 grandchildren, Angela (Joe) McBride, Stacie (Jim) Phillips, Chris (Laura) Dieter, John (Anna) Barker, Vincent (Marissa) Barker, Anna Barker, John (Missy) Walters, Guy (Alicia) Walters, Rachel (Brandon) Huffer; 9 great grandchildren, Noah, Ella, Samantha, Torie, Kyan, Cooper, Ruby, and Jack; and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry; a sister, Irene Sims; and 2 brothers, Dewey and Floyd Vaughan.
