"... third in Illinois on 8 March 1865 to Sarah A. Fahs (January 1838-1913), who was born in West Virginia. He was a farmer and lived in Hampshire County, WV, until the 1850s, when he moved to Adams County, Illinois. In 1862 he was living in Section 25, Richfield township, Adams County, Illinois. From 1862 to 1891 he lived at Stones Prairie, which was called Plainville in 1891. In 1891, he tried to claim a pension for his son John J. Carder’s Civil War service, claiming that he was a dependent parent at the time John J. was in the war. At that time he was living in Adams Co, Illinois. He made a will dated 23 August 1894. In the 1900 census his widow Sarah A. Carder is listed at Richfield, Adams County, Illinois."*
