From 1862 to 1891 he lived at Stones Prairie, which was called Plainville in 1891. In 1891, he tried to claim a pension for his son John J. Carder’s Civil War service, claiming that he was a dependent parent at the time John J. was in the war. At that time he was living in Adams Co, Illinois. He made a will dated 23 August 1894. In the 1900 census his widow Sarah A. Carder is listed at Richfield, Adams County, Illinois."*
