Nancy Jane Abbott was born in Perry County, Alabama, the daughter of William McClanahan Abbott and Frances Tubb Abbott. Nancy married Rev. George Everett in Perry County Alabama on 27 January 1851, with her brother, James S. Abbott, serving as security on their marriage bond. George Everett had moved from Perry County to Union Cross Roads (now Oakland), Union Parish Louisiana in 1848. Following their marriage, Nancy returned with George to his plantation near the Arkansas state line in Louisiana. Nancy had two young children when Rev. Everett died unexpectedly in June 1855. Nancy was just about one month pregnant with her last child when her husband died, with the baby born in February 1856.
Nancy remained on the Everett plantation, now managed by her step-sons Thomas M. Everett and John P. Everett, both older than her. She taught school in 1860. According to Everett family records, Nancy Jane Abbott Everett died in 1862 and was buried beside her husband in the Springhill Cemetery.
