Jim was born in Holland, IN on September 27, 1938 to the late Lawrence and Imogene (Lang) Ackerman Mills. When Jim started high school his family moved to Evansville's east side. He was a 1957 graduate of Bosse High School, but after he married he became a Westsider and Reitz High School fan. Mr. Ackerman was a 55 year member of St. James West United Methodist Church and a member of the Westside Sportsmen's Club and Reitz Big Blue Boosters. He worked as a draftsman for Traylor Brothers, Inc., retiring in 2003. Jim enjoyed camping, woodworking and volunteering at his church, especially at the St. James West Fall Festival Booth.
Surviving Jim are his wife of 55 years, Nancy (Beer) Ackerman; two sons, Donald (Laura) Ackerman of Atlanta, GA and Dwayne (Sherri) Ackerman of Wadesville, IN and four grandchildren, Adam, Andrew, Shelby and Cole Ackerman.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his stepfather, Dorris Mills and a brother, Fred Ackerman.
There will be a memorial service held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 3, 2015 at Pierre Funeral Home, Rev. Gary Brunson officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
