Sarah Jane Silver was my GGG Aunt and the sister of my GG Grandfather Levi Bud Silver named for his Uncle Levi B. The History of Ball Creek Baptist Church, for which she was a member for many years and her headstone states Sarah Jane Silver was born in 1846 and died in 1956. She lived to be 110 years old according to her death certificate, but this contradicts census records. According to family members, she never left the hills of North Ga until she was 90. She was carried to Atlanta.
She is buried in the front of her parents Greenberry, Manervia and brother, my Great Grandfather Levi "Bud" near the end. I have dated her birth as 1856 as she was age 4 in the 1860 census for Gilmer Co Ga.and was not listed in the census for 1850 Greene Co Tennessee. My relatives said she was a fiesty little character and a true mountain woman. We visited my Silver kin in the early 1950s, before she died, but I only remember playing with all the children. This was a treat as I was an only child.
She was the second wife of Silas (son of Wm Riley, brother of Greenberry) Silas first wife was her sister Elizabeth.
Sarah Jane applied for CSA Pension funds after Silas died and was approved.
Silas Silver joined the Confederate army at Whitfield Co Ga. in 1862 He was subscribed to the 36th Infantry Regiment. He was captured by Union forces at Nashville, TN in December 16, 1864.He took Oath of Allegiance on May 15, 1865 at Camp Chase Ohio. He was released on same day. ( Confederate Soldiers data bases and pension application of which I have)
A profile article about her and Silas and the children with their huge house that Silas built can be found in the Pickens Co Ga. Heritage Book.I was told a few years ago, the house had buried down. My Grandmother Victoria Silver, her niece, was born near that big old house May 12, 1892. I am sure the memories of Great Aunt Sarah Jane will live on for generations.
Sarah Jane and Silas had Sarah Helen (J. Taylor Hensley),Henry Dennis (Essie Brown),John H.(Vestia Carver),Mollie (Wm Dean),Elizabeth,Simmie Adeline(Wm Andrew Bud Caylor),and Minnie.
Her siblings were as family members gave me: Elizabeth (1839-1874 *Silas S Silver) Andrew Jackson 1847-1924 *Mary Jane Hyde) Joseph"Joe" (1849-1929 *Mary Polly Wilson) Cynthia (1853-1928 *Alfred B.
