Martha was the oldest child of fourteen children born to Dr. James "Uncle Jim" McBride and Mahala Miller McBride. She was married to Sebastian C. ADAMS on February 6th, 1851.

Adams and the daughter of James McBride. Crossed the plains in '46."; 1860 OR Census - Martha Adams, age 30, b. Missouri, is enumerated with S. C., age 35, occupation merchant, b. Ohio, along with Emma, age 8, b. Oregon, and Lucy, age 6, b. Oregon; 1870 OR Census - M. E. Adams(age 39, b. Missouri, is enumerated with S. C. Adams, age 45, occupation minister, b. Ohio, along with Em, age 18, b. Oregon, and L.R., (male) age 9, b. Oregon. Also enumerated with the family is E. Goodell (female), age 72, b. Vermont.
