William Calvin "Bill" Battle, 87, went to heaven on April 8, 2006 from his home in Milledgeville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Thomas H. Battle officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Battle was born in Griffin, GA to the late Laurie Hunter and Mamie Kate Veal Battle. After graduating from Douglas High School, he attended Georgia Southern College where he was a member of the basketball team. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was an avid outdoorsman and spent many happy hours walking though pine trees that he had planted. He owned and operated several sawmills during his lifetime and was also involved in the builders' supply business. He served as local commander of the American Legion for many years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife Lou Harrison Battle of Milledgeville. His Sons: Calvin William Battle and wife Joanne of Milledgeville, Robert Harrison Battle of Milledgeville, and Rev. Thomas Hunter Battle and wife Schar of Humble TX. Seven grandchildren: Wendi Schutt, Beau Battle, Laura Puckett, Brandon Battle, Sarah Alice McGahey, James Battle, and Katy Battle. Nineteen great grandchildren, his brother: Col. Benjamin Ray Battle of Dublin.
