WADE CHARLES AMBROSE - Graveside services for Wade Ambrose, age 83, of Gravity were held Wednesday, November 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at the Washington Cemetery with Pastor Ted DeHass officiating. Interment at the Washington Cemetery in Gravity. Memorials can be given in his name. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
Wade Charles Ambrose was born September 20,1917 in Gravity, Iowa, and the son of Frank Ambrose and Lena Shields Ambrose. He attended school in Gravity, graduating in 1935, and then attended Tabor College for two years. On December 20, 1939, he was united in marriage to Maxine Clapper in Savanna[h], Missouri.
Wade and Maxine made their home in Shenandoah where he worked as a Film Projectionist. He entered the United States Army, serving his county in World War II. After the war Wade worked as a Film Projectionist in Plattsmouth, Nebraska for a few years before the couple moved to Panama City, Florida, where they resided for forty years, returning to Gravity in 1987.
Wade was a Professional Magician, having performed magic most of his life. He and Maxine had traveled and he had performed over much of the southern United States. He thoroughly enjoyed performing for kids and public speaking. He never had a speech pre-planned; he just talked about what came to mind at the time. After moving back to Gravity, Wade became involved in making woodcrafts, which he sold at area craft shows. He loved auctions and almost always purchase[d] something.
Wade is survived by his wife, Maxine of Gravity; a brother, Lloyd Ambrose of Gravity, a sister, Iola Miller of Iowa City; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Wade in death are his parents, Frank and Lena; a daughter, Alice Ann, in 1944; two brothers, Gail Ambrose and Jack Ambrose; and a sister, Geraldine Souder.
