John L. Chappell

John L. Chappell, 71, Blue Knob, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Altoona Hospital.
He was born Feb. 18, 1929, in Beaverdale, a son of the late William M. and Marjorie (Baker) Chappell.
He married Florene S. Walter on Jan. 21, 1952, in Hollidaysburg.
He was a member of the Altoona Bible Church.
He retired in 1989 as a machinist at Lawruks Machine and Tool, Altoona.
He previously worked as a coal miner.
He was a 1966 graduate of the Altoona Bible Institute and as an ordained min¬ister served in various churches in the area.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of the Blair- Bedford Dirt Racers Association
and the Gold Prospectors Association. He enjoyed engine building for race quads and motorcycles, and gold panning.
Surviving are his wife of Blue Knob; three sons: David E. and John P., both of Blue Knob, and Danny L. of Osterburg; a sister, Miriam {Ed. Marian} Claar of East Freedom; two brothers: William of Claysburg RD and Clair of Portage RD; and three grandchildren: Brittany Chappell, Danny Chappell Jr. and Brandi James.
Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, East Freedom.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joel R. McGarvey officiating.
Interment at Imler Valley Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry; and a sister, Florence Benton.
