Mavola Parrott DuRant , 88, passed away Friday, January 11, 2008 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Mavola "Snookie" was born January 17, 1919 in Sumter, South Carolina. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1940 and received a degree in education. Mavola began her teaching career at North Augusta High School, and later became a secretary at Shaw Field Air Force Base in Sumter. She married Dr. Carey T. DuRant in 1945, and they moved to Myrtle Beach in 1947 to continue his medical practice. Mavola was a beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
