James Oliver Cook was the son of Matilda Cook Phillips.

He married Anna Roberts on July 3, 1880.

James was convicted of murder on March 5, 1884. and died on September 7, 1886, in the Huntsville, Walker County, Texas prison.

Anna has several children and all, but two carried the Cook name: James William Cook, Oliver Williams Cook, Maggie Cook Roach Fisher, Annie Cook Phillips, Sealie 'Celia' Cook Bell Franklin, Bessie Elizabeth Cook Garner and Corinne Cook Bell.

On the Certificate of Deaths for Mollie Elizabeth Cook Scott Sterns and Mary Scott Wynn a Frank Scott is recorded as their father.
