Abraham came with his family from Frutigan, Bern, Switzerland, arriving in the US in September 1835. His family name when arriving was Jungen, but evolved into Youngen within the years of settling in Ohio. It was on the ship ride over that he met his future wife Anna Hager, who was traveling with her family from Adleboden, Bern, Switzerland.

Together Abraham and his wife Anna (Hager) had 12 children. They helped establish and were founding members of the Ragersville Reformed Church in Ragersville, Tuscarawas, Ohio.
