Melissa Jane "Missy" Shafer, 17, of 1260 State Route 97 East, Bellville, died Friday afternoon December 28, 2001 in the emergency room of Galion Community Hospital from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle automobile accident.

She was born June 22, 1984 in Mansfield, and had been a lifelong area resident.

Missy was a student at Clear Fork High School.

Characterized as a caring and giving person, Missy enjoyed music and horseback riding, but the delight of her life was her nine-month-old son Kavern Delarwelle.

In addition to her son, Missy is survived by her mother Sherry L. Shafer of Bellville; her father Eric D. Anderson and his fiancée Pat Timmons both of Crestline; a sister Amanda Shafer of Bellville; maternal grandparents Ellen Hursh of Mansfield and Robert Swartz of Bellville and the late Gerald Hursh; paternal grandparents Sherry Anderson of Mansfield and Ernest Anderson and his girlfriend Carolyn Toby both of Mansfield; aunts and uncles Rob & Theresa Hursh of Goldsboro, NC, Kelley & Tim Thrush, Pam & Gerald Mowry, Kim & Steve Ocheltree and Kathi Flynn all of Bellville, Skip & Sara Hursh of Lexington, Margaret & Brent Close of New Albany, Valerie & Josh Brown of Lexington, Mark Anderson of Canal Fulton and Julie Hoover of Crestline; a half brother Eric Slack of Nashville; and numerous cousins, great aunts and great uncles.

Friends may call Tuesday January 1, 2002 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10:30 am. The Rev. Joel Warner will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Missy Shafer Memorial Fund may be made at the funeral home.
